Why Buy Oakdale?

The "Buy Oakdale, Because it Matters,"City Wide Sidewalk Sale campaign begun Saturday, November 28th, 2009. During the 1st one there were 15 local businesses that participated in the advertising. Since then there have been two additional dates: Saturday, March 13th, 2010 in conjunction with the Chamber's 5th Annual Oakdale Home & Garden Show and Saturday, July 24th, 2010 while Celebrating the American Cowboy.

We encouraged members and potential members to bring attention to their storefronts and invite shoppers to their businesses. An advertising campaign will include: email alerts, ads in the Oakdale Leader, 30+ KAT Country commercials, and a live remote. Please contact the Chamber if you would like to showcase your business in these marketing efforts.

Why Buy Oakdale is the question. The answer is: 1% of 8.375% sales tax stays in Oakdale; funds Police and Fire Emergency Service Operations; maintains public parks; purchases provide jobs; business owners give back to the community; friendly and top-notch service. Spend locally to support your community and the entire city benefits!

Business & Youth Day

(Thursday, March 31st, 2011)

Participating students from Oakdale High School complete an application for possible scholarship consideration through the Oakdale District Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau by deadline. Then on Thursday, March 31st, 2011, the Oakdale Chamber gives an opportunity to students to job shadow with a business associate that may be in the field they may like to pursue. A luncheon is held later that day at the Gene Bianchi Community Center located at 110 South Second Avenue in Oakdale. During the luncheon, the participating students do a presentation on what they have learned from their mentor. A panel of judges evaluate their applications, their presentations, and their mentors also evaluate them to determine the winners of the scholarships.

Six scholarships are offered; four Business and two Agricultural. Once applications are posted and available please have your student and/or a student you know apply. It's a wonderful learning program that allows students an oppotunity to see what they may want to pursue while having the opportunity to possibly be presented with a scholarship!
